Wool Dyer, Marrakesh

May 1, 2015

The first day we were in Marrakesh we found our way to where the wool is dyed.  As you approach the area, you see reams of different coloured wool hanging to dry on lines hung across the narrow streets of the souk.  There were men felting the wool, winding it on to spools and lots of colourful shawls and wraps for sale.  In the dark corner we found an opening where a man was dying the wool in large vats.  It did not look like a pleasant work environment.  I have a great deal more appreciation for the vibrant colours in the shawl I bought that day.  It was certainly tempting to buy more.
