Lady on Fire
March 6, 2020
Inspired by the vibrant colours of Oaxaca City and seeing the movie Portrait of a Lady on Fire at the International Film Festival there. The movie is in French and because we were in Mexico the subtitles were in Spanish. I can speak some of both languages which probably scrambled my brain even more. So this painting is a reflection of inspiration and scrambled brain syndrome.

Hi Dianne,
Really like your new painting. It’s different and bold. Well done!
How are things with you both? How are you enjoying life in Calgary? I’m sure that you are happier being closer to family and in a big city. I hope all is well health wise for you too.
We have just returned from 6weeks in Mexico where we spent 3 weeks in Oaxaca – which we loved! Then we went to Puerto Escondido, Zipolite and Mazunte. We met up with 2 friends of mine from high school and their wives in Puerto which was really fun. We found the coast much too warm for our liking, and even people who have been going there for years were complaining about the heat this year.
While we love Mexico, we are concerned that things are getting out of control there. A man was shot in the market 2 blocks from us in Oaxaca the day we arrived, and another a few days later. In PE, there was blood on the sidewalk a couple of blocks from our hotel where someone was shot a couple of weeks earlier. It was getting rather close for comfort. We are thinking of trying to find another warm winter destination.
Cheers and all the best!
